Centre & Lt. Governor's Gardens
Horticulture Centre & Lt.
Start this tour with a drive through the local
streets of downtown Victoria to arrive at the Lt. Governor's Estate.
Walk through the Rose Garden, Perennials Gardens, ponds with ducks
garden area to explore with your guide. Then proceed to the Horticulture
Centre, 103 acres of land that the Horticulture Centre of the Pacific
manages, five acres are intensively cultivated. There are 14 different
gardens to enjoy.
The Gardens are comprised of a group of demonstration
(and teaching) gardens. Their purpose is to demonstrate special
plants or conditions or landscaping techniques that are suitable
for the Pacific
West Coast area. For instance, one garden contains plants that
have colour and/or scent during the winter months; another demonstrates
tolerate low water conditions in the summer months. (Victoria enjoys
Mediterranean climate.”) Native plants suitable for landscaping,
including edible plants, are grown in yet other areas. Most major
plants are labeled to give you an opportunity to learn about plants.
