Horticulture Centre & Lt. Governors Gardens

Sightseeing Tours

Start this tour with a drive through the local streets of downtown Victoria to arrive at the Lt. Governor's Estate. Walk through the Rose Garden, Perennials Gardens, ponds with ducks and more garden area to explore with your guide. Then proceed to the Horticulture Centre, 103 acres of land that the Horticulture Centre of the Pacific manages, five acres are intensively cultivated. There are 14 different areas of gardens to enjoy.

The Gardens are comprised of a group of demonstration (and teaching) gardens. Their purpose is to demonstrate special plants or conditions or landscaping techniques that are suitable for the Pacific West Coast area. For instance, one garden contains plants that have colour and/or scent during the winter months; another demonstrates plants that tolerate low water conditions in the summer months. (Victoria enjoys a “modified Mediterranean climate.”) Native plants suitable for landscaping, including edible plants, are grown in yet other areas. Most major plants are labeled to give you an opportunity to learn about plants. A wonderful photo opportunity.
